At Covenant Birth Center, LLC, we embrace the Midwifery Model of Care.  Studies have shown that upright and mobile women in labor, supported by other women have better outcomes than their "flat on their back in bed" counterparts.

Your midwives at CBC are not "lay" midwives but are DHEC licensed, SC midwives and fully trained in "normal" physiological birth. We are experts in out of hospital birth, helping women remain low-risk, and facilitators of normal, unmedicated birth. 

On the rare occasion that alternate or emergency care is needed, your midwives are trained in emergency measures including CPR and neonatal resusitation. If necessary, we can expediently transfer care to the closest hospital which is only 3 minutes away.

Your midwives will take your birth plan very seriously and try to honor your wishes while maintaining safety for you and your baby.

It is our goal to make sure you are making informed choices regarding your healthcare.  Typical prenatal visits last from 45 minutes to 1 hour to make sure your questions are addressed and answered.

The majority of time spent at your prenatal visits will be talking with your midwife. Your prenatals are a time for learning, exploring natural birth issues, preparing for parenting, and dealing with the social stresses of life as they relate to your pregnancy. We place a major emphasis on wellness and nutrition and how it impacts labor and birth.

 We have a large lending library available to you to enhance your understanding of your pregnancy, labor, birth and breastfeeding.

All  prenatal testing is available to our clients, however, all testing is discussed in detail so that you and your family can become informed consumers and partners in your care.

Your care at CBC may begin with a free tour to see if this way of giving birth is right for you and your family. 

If you are relatively certain about your birth choices, you may want to go ahead and set up a consultation visit with one of the midwives. 

Prenatal care will follow a similar schedule to most obstetricians offices.  We will see you once a month until 28 weeks, twice a month until 36 weeks and weekly, thereafter.  

As your labor begins, your midwife will be in close telephone contact with you until it's time to come in to the center.

Because we are an outpatient facility, after your baby is born, you will have the opportunity for early discharge.  Most clients choose to go home at approximately 6-12 hours after birth.  This ensures enough time to  begin unhindered bonding, and breastfeeding, eat, rest and make sure all is normal.

We will give you complete instructions on what to expect over the next 24 hours.

At approximately 24-36 hours, you will return to the center for a well-momma and well-baby check-up.  We will see you both again as needed and at 6 weeks postpartum.
